Meet Amanda Chikowski
M.A., Registered Psychologist
I have worked in the field of psychology since 2005. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The King’s University College and a Masters of Counselling from Trinity Western University, completed in 2011. I am currently a Registered Psychologist in the Province of Alberta.
My clinical focus is on supporting First Responders and their families who are impacted by trauma and symptoms of PTSD. I am deeply passionate about helping individuals recover from relational and situational trauma, reconnect with their identity, access their resilience, and move forward with hope and confidence. I hold a profound respect for the unique work that First Responders do, and I am committed to offering them the specialized care they deserve.
While I specialize in working with First Responders, I am deeply committed to supporting individuals from all walks of life. I provide counselling services to those navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. Upon request, I also offer Christian counselling as part of a faith-integrated approach to therapy.
I strive to create a safe, supportive, and compassionate space where clients feel empowered to pursue meaningful change. My therapeutic approach is integrative and tailored to each client, drawing from attachment theory, psychodynamic therapy, gestalt techniques, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and trauma-informed practices. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a highly effective, evidence-based trauma treatment, as well as in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), another powerful trauma-focused approach. While we’ll explore some challenging topics together, I bring a sense of humor and warmth to help keep things balanced and make the process feel more manageable.
I provide psychological services to adolescents, adults, First Responders, and their family members. I work with clients referred through the RCMP, Edmonton Police Service (EPS), EMS, Strathcona Fire, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), Corrections, 911 Dispatch, and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).
Outside of my professional work, I enjoy staying active through biking and camping with my husband and two children. In the winter months, I can often be found at the rink cheering on my kids as they play hockey and ringette.
